Account Creation and Login

Why should I log into the site?

In order to use the portal fully, you should log in every time you use it. To use features like folders, forums, ratings, and recommendations, if enabled, you must log in. Although registering and logging in is not mandatory, it makes the portal more useful to you and the portal community.

How do I register?

Visit the Create an Account page to sign up for a new account. Make sure that you supply the correct e-mail address, and that you write down your username and password! Once you've filled out the form and submitted the information, you will receive an e-mail to confirm your account. After you've confirmed your account and logged into the portal, you can change your password on the User Preferences page, if so desired.

How do I log into the site?

To log in, enter your username and password in the log in area or on the Login page. If you do not have a username and password, visit the Create an Account page and follow the directions to create a username and password.

Should I log out when I'm finished?

In order to protect information specific to your user account, you should log out of the site each time you finish using it. The system will automatically log you out if you are not active for three hours. Simply closing your browser window will not log you out.

What if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, you may have the portal send you a link to reset it by visiting the Password Assistance page, where you can enter your user name or email address, and an email to reset your password will be sent to you. Open that email, and follow the link to reset your password.

How do I change my password?

In order to change your password, you must be logged into the site. To change your password, or any other profile information, visit the User Preferences page and look for the Password section. In that section, first enter your old password, then type your new password twice. Then, click the Save Changes button. The next time you log into the site, you will need to supply the new password.
