This web unit introduces two kinds of speciation (allopatric and sympatric) through an interactive task: the speciation of a group of tropical angiosperms called Fuchsia. Before starting the task, students are advised to review the definition of allopatric and sympatric speciation by entering "click here".
In the Fuchsia task, the website presents observations and then ask students to choose possible hypothesis. To justify the hypothesis, the website presents evidence for students to determine which one best support the hypothesis. This task includes some animations that help student visualize speciation. Major concepts such as gene flow and gene variation is also emphasized in this task.
This unit is one of the three topics under "Evolution > Species and Speciation": http://ats.doit.wisc.edu/biology/ev/sp/sp.htm
