Lights, Camera, Acting Transport! is an active and unique role-play exercise designed to teach introductory biology students basic concepts of passive and active membrane transport. The activity involves three acts in which students, representing various molecules, ions and components of the plasma membrane, interact to learn the fundamentals of passive transport, primary active transport and co-transport across cellular membranes. The activity can be easily adapted depending on the time constraints of the classroom. Instructors are provided with a detailed overview of the activity as well as an assessment and think-pair-share activity for students. The following Bio 1113 learning objectives are met with this activity: Describe the cellular response to its environment (e.g. membrane transport, signal transduction).
